The Outrunners!

I haven't been super active on the blog lately and that's partially due to the fact that I've been busy working on a webcomic. Above is a teaser image I did a few months ago for The Outrunners, a comic written by Jonathan Gelatt and drawn by me. You can check out the first seven pages HERE.

The Tick.

" I am mighty. I have a glow you cannot see. I have a heart as big as the moon. As warm as bathwater. We are superheroes, men, we don't have time to be charming. The boots of evil were made for walkin'. We're watching the big picture, friend. We know the score. We are a public service, not glamour boys. Not captains of industry. Keep your vulgar moneys. We are a justice sandwich. No toppings necessary. Living rooms of America, do you catch my drift? Do you dig? "

People don't talk about the Tick cartoon enough.

Blackout Nonsense.

My apartment complex lost power last Monday because of hurricane Sandy, we got power back last night. Above are drawings I did mostly by candlelight while killing time over the past week. Drew these to keep my mind occupied. No computer and no lighbox is stupid. Electricity rules. Hot shower!

Jaws Week.

It's Shark Week and the Jaws blu-ray comes out today. If I didn't love sharks I'd be furious right now.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Donatello make up the team with one other fellow, Raphael...
These drawings are part of a larger illustration I'm working on. They're based on the turtles as they appeared in the first movie. I tried to match the likenesses as best I could.

My Pet Monster

My girlfriend still has a My Pet Monster sitting next to her bed and I love the colors of it and wanted to draw a 'what would it look like if the kid from the cartoon grew up and still hung out with his pet monster'. Pencil version here.

Blood Wulf.

I tried to utilize every fact I know about outer space while drawing this picture:

1. As you fly through space, space wind blows your space hair back.
2. If a spaceship gets exploded - it falls downward (cause of gravity).
3. There's a bunch of Blood Wulfs flying around.

Sharkhouse.

This is a twelve page comic I've been working on for a while. I wrote it mainly because I wanted to draw sharks, shipwrecks and stuff. One of the main inspirations was a photo I saw of a sunken schooner up in Canada. You can read it page by page below, view it in Google Docs, or download the pdf.

Barefoot Robert.

I had a 3 post streak going of drawings featuring "guys smoking pipes". Now it's broken. Really puts that Cal Ripkin thing into a whole new perspective for me. Pencils here.

Karate Bear.

When the first Kung Fu Panda came out I worked on a few books based on the property. When there was some downtime at work I drew some of the characters just for fun.

Bloody Hammer.

The idea for this picture came from a song by Roky Erickson called 'Bloody Hammer'. The visual doesn't exactly match the lyrics of the song but it's what came to mind the first few times I heard the song. It ended up looking like a cross between a muppet and a madball. The song is actually about three fraternity pledges who were told to spend the night in a haunted house where a man had supposedly killed his wife and, as Roky tells it:

"The first person went in, he didn't come out. The second one went in and he didn't come out and the third person came in and he didn't come out. Finally the other fraternity members went in and went to look for them they couldn't find them. And they heard this tapping in the attic. When they went in the attic there was one of the pledges there and his hair had turned stark white and his eyes had rolled up in his head and he was hammering the attic floor with a bloody hammer."

Happy Halloween.
